Why do people support politicians that in the end, will hurt them?

If small town america is really the type thats votes for president and therefore, will like Sarah Palin because she goes hunting and watches hockey, then they'll chose McCain. But the already demonstrated policies of Bush and presumably those of McCain will HURT small town america. Jobs are already being shipped overseas while corporations and big business prosper. Why don't the rest of small town americans like me not understand this?
