Using my american straightener in europe?

im going to europe in a week, (switzerland, france, & italy) & need a straightener for my hair. i have a chi, but theres no way im taking it and having it break because of the outlets being different. should i buy a cheap one there? or here? or an adapter? my friend went to london and used an adapter with her straightner and it still didnt work, it completly broke it! any suggestions? thanks! :)
