An amplifier won't help much - it's interference from ping cars and reflections of the signal if you are low down. Get an aerial that looks like a little outdoor aerial - these are quite directional and will help block out the interference. Use the tuning thing on your on your box to point the aerial in the best direction and tape it in position. The 'rabbit ear' or circular aerials are not good enough for this.
