What was Francis Marion famous for?

The swamp fox practically invented gorilla warfare. At least 20 towns were named for him. Only Washington and Lafayette had more towns named after them. Disney had a tv series about him in the 1950's. He was one of the three men that Mel Gibson's the Patriot was based on.
