How do you decide whether you should ski or snowboard?

I am going to the ski hills on Thursday and I can't decide whether I want to ski or snowboard. It's going to be the same amount of money whether I rent ski equipment or snowboard equipment. I can also receive free lessons in snowboarding or skiing. So which one do I choose and why??
